July 16 — Oberhofer, the Washington-formed/Brooklyn-based indie pop band, was one of a handful of bands performing at The Village Voice’s 4Knots Festival. Their penchant for pop/punk-esque song structure with some brilliant instrument work was perfect for the performance on South Street Seaport.

Oberhofer’s set was short yet enjoyable. They were the first band I recognized on 4Knots’ bill so I was excited to check them out — they were fun to watch, but once Titus Andronicus took the stage, it was easy to see that Oberhofer was destined to be showed up.
With that being said, Oberhofer’s fun, summery feel was perfect for the kickoff of 4Knots, which is considered the replacement to the Village Voice’s previous summer event, Siren Fest. Songs like “I Could Go” and “o0Oo0Oo” matched the vibe of the show, perfect for a free concert taking place on a local pier. The attending crowd seemed reserved during this band’s set with nary a crowd surfer in sight.
Oberhofer’s sound warrants a listen, especially for fans of pop/punk songs looking for some new indie bands to check out.
