In February 2011, rumors were flying regarding The People’s Key being the last we’d hear of Bright Eyes. The band announced a few one-off shows, one of which being in New York City, and all people could talk about was how this show might be one of the band’s last.
With this, I immediately bought tickets to the show at Radio City Music Hall, ordered the intense pre-order package for the record, and sunk a shit-ton of money into getting my last ever Bright Eyes fix.
Shortly after the Radio City show sold out, the band added a second night — I immediately ordered another set of tickets. ”The band’s never coming back,” I thought, “it’s well worth it, right?” Right.
Not too long after this, the band announced a full tour and I found myself ordering tickets to the show in Boston as well. ”Five hours in the car? No big deal. It’s Bright Eyes. They’re not going to be around after this.”
By the end of the touring announcements, I found myself with tickets to six tour dates on the east coast, spanning from Boston to Virginia, and somehow found my way into the band’s performance on David Letterman’s show. Am I a little crazy? Definitely. Here’s a day-by-day recap of my touring experience.
