July 16 — Oberhofer, the Washington-formed/Brooklyn-based indie pop band, was one of a handful of bands performing at The Village Voice’s 4Knots Festival. Their penchant for pop/punk-esque song structure with some brilliant instrument work was perfect for the performance on South Street Seaport.
July 17 — When Taking Back Sunday announced that both Matt Rubano and Matt Fazzi would be leaving the band rather abruptly last summer, fans were confused — but when it was announced that original members John Nolan and Shaun Cooper would be returning, excitement escalated beyond measure. Flash forward almost a year later, and Taking Back Sunday released a new self-titled album, the original line-up’s first since the prolific Tell All Your Friends, and embarked on a U.S. tour. The band used this tour to bring together new and old fans of the band, and though they did make sure to play songs off their newest release, it was songs from the band’s 2003 debut that made the show one of the best of the summer. June 18 — Danish singer/songwriter/pop star Oh Land took the stage at Rumsey Playfield, also known as the Central Park Summerstage for the 2011 New York City Pride Rally, which kicked off a week of festivities ultimately culminating with the Pride March on June 26. Oh Land’s bubbly personality and eccentric looks (yes, she wore a white headdress) was a perfect match for the event — her performance itself was pretty spot-on as well. Continue reading
June 17 — Pop/R&B singer Jason Derulo performed during an intimate set for fans at Webster Hall as part of AT&T’s Music For You concert series. Derulo’s set included many of his hit singles, including “Whatcha Say” and “In My Head.” Showing off his performing skills during the modest set, Derulo ruled over his fans simply by doing what he does best.
